Uyun Al Jawa

Uyun Al Jawa is a heritage town in Qassim, Saudi Arabia, with an old mosque, a former trading market and ancient rock art in the desert around it

Uyun Al Jawa is a heritage town in the north-western part of the Al Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia, where old village buildings sit beside the desert and its ancient rock carvings. People come for a quieter side of Qassim: a small, close community, an unhurried rhythm and daily traditions that still follow the land. In the village you can see the Old Mosque, with its broad prayer hall, high ceilings, columns joined by plain geometric arches and a round minaret. The Kuttab, a traditional school, stands nearby. Close to the mosque is Al Majlis Traditional Market, which had around 50 small shops selling livestock, farm produce and local goods such as ghee. The King Fahad Grand Mosque offers a modern contrast, built in a contemporary Islamic style. Opening hours are 08:00 to 18:00, and visitors of any age are welcome. The town grew up as an agricultural centre, known in the past for its natural springs and palm groves. Because Qassim lies on historic caravan routes, the market served surrounding areas and mattered to regional trade. Beyond the village, rocky outcrops hold ancient rock art and Thamudic inscriptions, and centuries of wind have shaped the stone around them.
