Tayebat Museum

Tayebat Museum

A heritage museum in Jeddah's Al Faisaliyah district, with floors on Islamic history, Red Sea life and the founding of the kingdom, in a building styled on old Hijazi houses.

Tayebat Museum is a heritage museum in the Al Faisaliyah district of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, covering Saudi and Islamic history, culture and regional customs. It suits travellers who want to understand the city before exploring it. The museum is open from 08:00 to 21:00 and welcomes visitors of all ages. Exhibits spread over several floors. On the ground floor, follow the story of Islam from the five pillars to its mark on science and industry, and see a detailed model of the pilgrimage to Makkah, including the Kaaba. Manuscripts, pottery, old coins and weapons sit nearby, with Arabic and English descriptions. Other displays cover early fishing communities, the Red Sea and its marine life, Bedouin life, and King Abdulaziz and the unified kingdom. The building is part of the story. The complex recreates traditional Hijazi architecture, with wooden lattice bay windows and coral stone walls. Jeddah has long been a seaport and the gateway to Makkah, welcoming people from many places, and the museum reflects that mixed past, reaching back to when Arabia had rivers and green meadows.
