Al Samra Mountain

Al Samra Mountain

Al Samra Mountain is a heritage and leisure site in Hail, Saudi Arabia, linked to the host Hatim Al-Tai. Visitors come for the lookout, the city views and a meal at the summit restaurant.

Al Samra Mountain is a historic hill site in the Hail region of Saudi Arabia, and it suits visitors who like their history served with a good view. People come to look out over Hail, to hear the story of a famously generous host, and to stay on for a meal or a coffee. The mountain has a scenic overlook, which is the natural place to start. There is also an Italian restaurant and cafe, so it works well for an unhurried visit rather than a quick photo stop. Some accounts mention a historic watchtower and lights that show up after dark, and the site is open in the evening, until 23:00. Opening hours are Sunday to Thursday from 09:00 to 23:00, and from 14:00 to 23:00 on Friday and Saturday. There is no minimum age, so families can bring children of any age. The mountain belongs to the Shammar Mountains, and its story centres on Hatim Al-Tai. Tradition says he lit a fire on the summit, known as Al Mawqida, so that travellers and passers-by could find their way to his home. That gesture of welcome is why the place is remembered, and it gives a modern evening here a sense of continuity: people still come up the mountain to be fed, greeted and given a view of the land below.
