Shada Mountains
The Shada Mountains in Al Baha, Saudi Arabia, are a granite mountain landscape of cliffs, caves, rock carvings and rare plants. They are open 24 hours, with no minimum age.
The Shada Mountains are a nature area in Al Baha, Saudi Arabia, made up of two parts: Shada Al-Asfal, the Lower range, and Shada Al-A'la, the Upper. People come for the steep granite cliffs, the caves, the uncommon plants and the chance to spend a day outdoors on foot.
On the ground, there are rough trails to hike, carvings cut into the rock to look for, and wild fig trees and coffee plantations growing in the gaps between boulders. Endemic species and other wildlife live here, so keep your eyes open as you walk. Some visitors climb at sunrise, while others come to photograph the valleys when cloud fills them. The mountains are open 24 hours and there is no minimum age, though the trails are rugged, so choose routes that suit everyone in your group.
The caves here were lived in during prehistoric times, and the carvings nearby are another trace of the people who once used these rocks. Today the same slopes support wild fig, coffee and plants that are hard to find elsewhere, which gives Shada a mix of human history and living nature. We can help you plan a visit that takes in both the Lower and Upper sections.
