Gharameel Stargazing

Gharameel Stargazing is a guided night-sky tour in the desert north of AlUla, set among tall rock pillars. A local expert leads the session, followed by a grilled dinner by the campfire.

Gharameel Stargazing is a guided evening in the desert north of AlUla, Saudi Arabia, where visitors look up at a sky far from any city lights. People come for the dark, quiet setting and for the chance to see constellations and planets with someone who knows them well. A local expert leads each session and explains the constellations, what they have meant to local culture, and how they once helped travellers find their way across the desert. Afterwards, guests sit down to a traditional grilled dinner around a campfire in a Bedouin-style camp, with warm drinks, comfortable seating and lantern light. Dinner is served at 8:30 PM. The site is open from 08:00 to 18:00, and there is no minimum age. From October to March tours run seven days a week; from April to September they run Thursday to Sunday only. Tours must be booked in advance, and self-driving is not allowed: transport is a round trip from Husaak Adventures AlUla, and the journey to the site takes about 90 minutes by 4x4. Bring warm clothing, because temperatures fall quickly after sunset, even in the warmer months. The setting gives the night its character. Tall rock pillars, the remains of an ancient mountain, rise around the camp like sculptures. In the stillness, the only sounds are quiet conversation and the crackle of the fire.
